Who this page is for

We supply printed fabric to fabric shops, wholesalers, brands and makers who resell or manufacture. If that's you, this page shows what your cost base looks like compared with a retail print-on-demand service.

We are not pretending to be the same kind of business as a consumer POD site. We are not. The difference is the point.

Looking for the volume discount ladder rather than the comparison? That is on our volume pricing page.

Trade supplier vs retail print-on-demand

Jersey Print Factory Retail print-on-demand

Minimum 5 m cotton · 1 m polyester, per design 1 yard
Pricing Trade, per metre · volume discount from 50 m Retail, per yard
Fabric range 63 qualities ~30 qualities
Printing Reactive on cotton · sublimation on polyester and sportswear · acid on silk Varies

If you want a single metre of polyester for a personal project you are welcome to order it — our sublimation minimum is 1 m. For a single yard of printed cotton, a retail service is the better choice and we will tell you so.

The comparison, per square metre

Fabric is sold by the metre or the yard, at different widths, so a headline price tells you very little. The only honest comparison is price per square metre. Here is the arithmetic, so you can check it yourself.

1 yard = 0.9144 m. Area = length × width. Retail figures are as published on spoonflower.com on 23 September 2026, in USD. Ours are in EUR, ex-VAT, at list price before any volume discount, using our advertised fabric widths.

Our fabric Our price Width Our €/m² Closest retail equivalent Retail $/m²
Organic Cotton Jersey 210 gsm €9.90 / m 150 cm €6.60 Organic Cotton Knit · $32/yd · 56" $24.60
Stretch Cotton Jersey 210 gsm €8.90 / m 175 cm €5.09 Cotton Spandex Jersey · $32/yd · 60" $22.96
Cotton French Terry 300 gsm €11.90 / m 150 cm €7.93 Polartec® Fleece · $29/yd · 56" $22.30
Sport Lycra 230 gsm €14.40 / m 150 cm €9.60 Sport Lycra® · $36/yd · 56" $27.68

Across these qualities our trade price is roughly a quarter to just over a third of retail print-on-demand pricing per square metre, depending on the exchange rate on the day — and that is at list price, before the volume discount. Fabrics are described as closest equivalents, not identical articles — construction, finish and fibre content differ between suppliers.

What that means if you resell

A 50 m order of Organic Cotton Jersey at 150 cm is 75 m² of printed fabric. At our list price that is €495, and 50 m reaches our first volume tier, so the invoice is lower again. The same area bought at retail print-on-demand pricing would be around $1,845.

That difference is your margin. It is the reason a fabric shop buys from a trade printer rather than sending its customers to a consumer site.

Why cotton still has a minimum — and polyester does not

These are two different printing processes, and the economics are not the same.

Cotton is reactive printed: 5 m per design. The cloth is printed, then steamed and washed as a continuous length, and a reactive run needs a minimum length to hold colour consistently from one end to the other. Below that, the first metres are setup. We would rather decline a 1 m order than sell you a metre we are not confident in.

Polyester is sublimation printed: 1 m per design, and no minimum beyond that. The design is transferred into the fibre with heat, with no dye bath and no washing stage, so there is nothing that has to be run at scale. That is why we dropped the polyester minimum — and why you can order a 20 × 20 cm test print of your own design for €4.90 before committing to anything.

See it before you commit

Order a swatch pack for €9 and judge the hand, weight and print quality yourself. It is cut from whatever we are currently running, drawn from our 63 qualities. Every quality also carries a swatch ID — quote the code on a repeat order and we print the same cloth again, with no guessing from a photograph.

You can compare all 63 qualities side by side, filtered by weight, use, printing method and handle, on our fabric finder.

For volume pricing on a specific quality, or to open a trade account, use our trade account request form or write to info@jerseyprintfactory.com with the quality, the metreage and the destination country.
